FAQ - OSH IN EDUCATION




1. How OSH is relevant in school? 

OSH is relevant in school because hazard, risks, danger and also common illness can be found in school community and we have to ensure the safety, health and welfare of teachers, students and visitors in school is secured.

2. Who is likely to be responsible with OSH in school?

Teachers, administrative staff, students and parents should be responsible to the OSH management is school so that it can be practiced efficiently. 

3. How OSH can be practiced in school?

For early stage, OSH can be practiced by forming an OSH committee in school which consists of teachers, administrative staff, students and parents as the safety personnel. Then the committee members are responsible to set the objective of OSH practice in school and how it is likely to be conducted. Then, the committee can approach OSH body in Malaysia to strengthen the effort in implementing OSH in school.

4. How we can integrate OSH in curriculum?

We can begin with integrating the health promotion in primary school curriculum by adding the syllabus for common injury and illness among students and the way to prevent it. Next, we can incorporate risk education and safety of the school environment in secondary school syllabus. The topics can be focused on understanding the risk and hazards, the way to prevent it and the precautions steps that need to be taken to ensure a safe school environment. 

5. What are the challenges to implement OSH in school?

Lack of awareness in OSH is one of the major challenge that limit the implementation of OSH in school besides the low financial allocation and time constraint of the school community to carry out the OSH management.
